I focus on HUMAN LIFE. What drives me forward are CHOICES and the effects they have on those making them. Do we have freedom of choice? Who is responsible for our decisions? Does anything happen by CHANCE? My work is a reflection of an infinite curiosity for the day-to-day life of people.
Be it in audiovisual form or writing, I look at people who decide to smile in hardships, people who live in strong faith, people who consciously go against cultural and societal norms, people who find joy in the simplicity of life. I tell stories through them.
My work is a reflection of an infinite curiosity for the day-to-day life of people
By portraying people in their environments I strive to reveal not only the mundane and the visible, but also VALUES and ATTITUDES towards life. Why is life linear for some, whilst complex for others? Where are the boundaries between the social, the cultural and the individual?
Some re-occuring themes in my work are workers, children who are naturally innocent, unconventional individuals, and carnival as the destabilization of power structures and hierarchy, values and norms.
My method of working is to intentionally EXPOSE MYSELF to others, to be part of their routine, to live a moment through them. I hitchhike into people’s cars, cycle to their backyards, sleep on their sofas. I travel to different cultures to be part of other realities, to fantasize about parallel existences. Out of these explorational journeys stem WORDS, PICTURES and MOVING IMAGES.
